Mildred Fizer Scholarship for 4-H’ers

Miss Mildred Fizer established a 4-H scholarship

The Mildred Fizer Scholarship for 4-H’ers was established by Miss Mildred Fizer, WVU’s first female 4-H director. Fizer, a Marshall University grad, worked in the Cabell County school system before becoming a 4-H agent in the county in the late 1940s. She then moved to Morgantown as a 4-H specialist and became the first female 4-H director in the late 1960s, serving in that position for 16 years before retiring.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a West Virginia 4-H’er who is enrolled as an incoming freshman at WVU. The recipient may be enrolled in any field, however he or she must demonstrate high academic promise and have maintained a high school GPA of least 2.5. The scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
